Donating your baby's cord blood could save the life of a patient with no other hope of survival. The placenta and cord are normally discarded after your baby's birth, but stem cells found in cord blood can replace the diseased cells of a dying patient. There is no risk to you or your baby. The stem cells are collected after your baby is born.
